Overview

The Examination Department of Bhitai Dental & Medical College serves as the backbone of the academic assessment system, ensuring the smooth, fair, and transparent conduct of all examinations for undergraduate and postgraduate dental programs. The department is responsible for managing and coordinating internal assessments, professional university examinations, clinical/practical evaluations, and viva voce in accordance with the academic calendar and the guidelines of relevant regulatory bodies such as the Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PMDC) and LUMHS Jamshoro

Our primary goal is to uphold academic integrity and foster a culture of merit and excellence through structured and standardized examination procedures. The department ensures secure paper setting, invigilation, result tabulation, and timely result announcements, while maintaining strict confidentiality and compliance with institutional policies.

We also handle supplementary exams, medical deferrals, student grievances related to assessments, and coordination with external examiners and university controllers. By using efficient record-keeping systems and ensuring strict adherence to examination regulations, the Examination Department plays a vital role in academic quality assurance and student success.

Attendance

75% attendance is compulsory for students for appearing in semester exams.
Relaxation can be awarded by chairman managing trustee + principal on fair medical or any other genuine grounds.

Type of Examination

On completion of all necessary syllabuses there will be a semester examination at the end of semester.
Semester examinations are divided into two parts.

1. Theory Examination

Theory examination is further divided into two parts.
  A) Best choice questions (BCQ’s)
  B) Scenario based Questions (SBQ’s)

2. Structured Examination

Further divided into two groups
  A). Objective Structured Practical Examination (OSPE)
    OSPE is practiced for the subjects of basic sciences.
  B). Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE)
    OSCE is practiced for subjects of clinical sciences

Examination Rules
  1. No student shall be eligible for the university examination without having attended 75% of total lectures, demonstrations, tutorials, practical and clinical work of full academic year of the class.
  2. Has paid the requisite fees for the examination to the university and cleared all the college / hostel dues.
  3. The minimum passing marks in each subject shall be 50% in theory and practical examinations separately. A student who fails in theory or in practical examination of a subject shall be considered to have failed in full subject, both theory and practical and shall re-appear in the subject in which he/she has failed.
  4. A student, who has failed/detained in a professional examination or its part both in Annual and Supplementary in any subject, shall not be promoted to the next higher class. He /She shall undergo the course of study in the subject(s) in which he/she failed / detained and pay the tuition fee for failed subjects.
  5. A students who is eligible to appear in the examination but did not take the examination for whatever reason shall be considered to have failed.
  6. According to the PMDC rules for examination only two examinations, Annual and Supplementary are allowed. No third or extra supplementary examination is permitted.
  7. A students who has passed his/ her final professional BDS examination shall be entitled to the degree of Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from the LUMHS, provided he/she has conformed to the requirements of Pakistan Medical & Dental Council which may be enforced time to time.
  8. Any student who fails to clear First Professional in four chances availed or Un-availed and has been expelled on that account shall not be eligible for continuation of dental studies of the BDS and shall not be eligible for fresh admission as a fresh candidate in BDS. Any student who fails to clear 2nd Professional in four chances availed or un-availed and has been expelled on that account shall not be eligible for continuation of medical studies of the BDS and shall not be eligible for fresh admission as a fresh candidate in either MBBS or BDS.”
  9. Maximum of FOUR chances availed/ Un-availed will be allowed to a student to clear First Professional BDS Examination after becoming eligible to appear in this examination. If a student’s fails to pass First Professional BDS in stipulated FOUR chances, his/her name will be struck off from the College and will be considered ineligible for continuing BDS studies.
